aba-jahb_Building Skills and Applying Them to Everyday Life

It’s important to us that your child is able to use his/her skills at The Shafer Center for Early Intervention, and is also able to apply those skills in a variety of settings: at home, at the grocery store and other places in the community. Our program uses evidence based one-on-one intensive therapy provided by highly trained therapists and is overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). Together, they will teach your child skill acquisition and generalization, enabling him/her to apply skills and knowledge into daily life.

Our Applied Behavior Analysis program is evidence based, highly individualized, and changes based on your child’s learning profile and skill acquisition. Data is taken on a trial-by-trial basis and tracked closely by the Behavior Analyst (BCBA or BCaBA) to ensure your child’s skills are developing. This is accomplished by breaking down tasks into individual components. By teaching this way a child can feel more successful and then be more engaged in the activities.

Targeted skills may include but are not limited to:

  • Communication
  • Attention
  • Pre-academics
  • Play
  • Imitation
  • Reduction of problem behaviors

Sometimes, even the most basic daily tasks aren’t so easy. Our behavior consultants are available for in-home potty training consultations to work with you and your child to help him/her gain this fundamental skill. For your convenience, our team can be available on weekends.
